New 1.5v cards?

After about a month of trial and error that jumped from possibly a bad mobo,cpu,vid card, and psu I finally discovered the reason I could not get my system to boot up and why my brand new Gigabyte 6800 GT would constantly sound off it's high pitched alarm every time was because my new Asus K8N-E Deluxe only supported 1.5v cards not 3.3v.

Now the problem is I can't find a single new card from either ATI or Nvidia that is a 1.5v, do they even exist? Why would Asus make a new board that supports older cards?

Your 6800 isn't a 3.3v card it's 1.5v. You haven't found the problem yet cause it sure isn't a compatibility issue. Pretty much all nvidia and ati cards out now is 1.5v.

3.3 is the old AGP 1x/2x spec IIRC

Those are 3.3 Kev. Newer cards use 1.5v.

4x is 1.5 volts
1x/2x is 3.3 volts

Well it would definitely be odd for the card to be 3.3v so you are right I probably am wrong about that, what I went and did was grabbed a 9800 I had lying around and gave it a try and for the first time in almost a month the machine showed life.

Now trust me when I say I've checked just about everything (cpu,mobo,ram,psu,etc.) RMA'ed,swapped,and tested in all sorts of ways and they showed no problems. It comes down to the video card, my system refuses to power on when it is installed (I've checked the slot and the card and the power to it many times) and will ALWAYS sound the alarm if it is not plugged in naturally but will just squeek when the power is plugged in and anything else in the system will just kind of try to power on but at a slow pace (blip..blip..blip..blip).

Is it a faulty video card?

I guess RMAing it wouldn't hurt..

Well since the 9800 works, it's almost certainly a bad video card (unless the 6800gt is pulling considerably more power than the 9800 and causing an issue). Got another pc to test it in?

Don't get confused folks. The SUPPLY voltage on AGP is and always has been 3.3V. SIGNALLING voltage is 1.5V for 4x/8x, and 3.3V for 1x/2x. (8x uses a reduced voltage swing of 0.8V, but it's still 1.5V signalling.)
