Well I just recently beat baldurs gate 1/2 all these years later. I really loved the games and also played all the mods for them. I knew neverwinter nights had mixed reviews but I figured it was released by the same people so it had to be good. Man, I played it, shut it off, played it shut it off about half a dozen times. Trying to get into it at least a little bit but I really do hate the graphics and the speech boxes and frankly just about everything except for the spell effects. I just dont understand how someone could like this game if they liked baldurs gate first. I ended up going out and picking up icewind dale and am having a pretty good time but of course it is no baldurs gate but it will definately do. After this what is there really left? I am playing the last infinity engine game I can think of is this pretty much all I have left in this genre?

For NWN, try the 2 expansions before you give up on it completely. You start with a new character so you don't need to have completed the main campaign.

If 2D sprites are all you like, then you might like Arcanum. I assume you've already played Fallout 1-2, Tactics, and Planescape: Torment, right?

Yep I have played them ok arcanum I will try that out. I dont really know exactly what I dont like about NWN and it isnt a general hate its just more uninterest than anything. For some reason I really dislike the text boxes just being in those little balloons off their head, it makes me much less interested in reading what they say. I guess I also dont like you dont have a big party with the banter like in bg1/bg2 and I guess since the stories and characters change every 3 chapters it seems like there is no continuity and you have no connection with your main character. Its someone new everytime which I think is a big thing they messed up on. Also the feat system is meh so so I prefer how the system worked in bg1/2 and not this taunt business and such. Also the random chests are horrible in my opinion, I dont want 50 chests trapped and filled with 2gp each give me a break.

I issue this word of warning about NeverWinter Nights to anyone that wants to play it:
Dont even play the original campaign of neverwinter nights, it is garbage by Bioware standards. Chapter 1 of the expansion pack Shadows of Undertide is tolerable (2nd chapter sucked) and the 2nd and 3rd chapters of Hordes of the Underdark are good (1st chapter was a hack and slash grindfest)

Download and play this module and its sequel if you want a great story driven game with focus on plot / character development, but action RPG lovers beware, there are only about 3 "forced" combat encounters in the entire first module.

The module

It's sequel (and a better game)

A more action oriented game (that still has great story / roleplaying) would be:

But, I highly suggest the first two modules that I linked.

I will try it just because I believe in giving games a proper shot but I typically do not care for many mods since it just doesnt feel 'real' if it is a community created item. Especially since you know whatever they create will never be a part of a future official storyline.

Most modules use items from the original game.

The three mods that I linked are far superior to NWN1's OC.

Ultra minor spoilers below

As for the storyline argument, NWN2 (the sequel) had nothing to do with official NWN1 storyline nor the expansion packs' storyline (the expansion packs for NWN1 had nothing to do with the NWN1 OC's storyline either).

You are missing out on some great games by not playing some of the community made NWN modules.

Any BG fan will like NWN2 much better than NWN1 -- if your rig can handle it. Ending's fairly lame, unfortunately, but by the time you finish, the expansion (continuing the story) will probably be out.

I second the Tales of Arterra suggestion.

I have a slight problem with NWN1. It starts up as a black screen. The buttons are there and I can click them and that will get the screen to display, but until I click a button it's kind of shooting in the dark. Actually, it's not kind of, IT IS shooting in the dark.

Otherwise I'd love to play some of the NWN community made mods.

I have also NWN2, so do you have any recommendations for that?
