Well, I got around to installing it on my new computer running AMD barton 2500 and an ATi Radeon 9700pro. Latest Cats, all the updates on NWN, and it always crashes for me. Sometimes ATi VPU recover recovers, but most of the time even when it does that it still locks up.

Anyone ever have a problem like this? Its killing me :( I wanna play my NWN! Always randomly crashing...its hard for me to get anywhere.

-= right-click destop > settings tab> advanced button > VPU recovery tab> disable VPU recovery.

-= right-click destop > settings tab> advanced button >SMART-GART > Disable fast write.

Stability should insue! ;)

I played the original twice (on two different machines), and the 2 expansions, and never once had it crash on me (8500 and 9800Pro). But those were the SP games... i only played MP a few times, so not enough to know if it was stable or not.

I tried 4.2s aswell...still nothing :(

Fastwrite Off, Cats 4.2s, 4.5s and 4.6s. VPU Recover was also off.

What are your full specs? In my experience NWN has been much more dependent on chipset/ram/cpu than GPU.

Also have you tried the DNA drivers?

When you have VPU Recovery off, what's the message you get when it crashes? Or don't you?

Oh, is your videocard overclocked at all? If so, try clocking it back to default. I know back when i had my 8500LE, and OCed it, in all games it ran fine, until i played FFXI, then i would constantly crash and get a VPU error.

No overclocking AT ALL.

Whats a DNA driver?

WinXP latest updates
Barton 2500
Shuttle SN41G2 (nForce2 chipset, not sure which drivers, whichever came with the box is what ive been using. I WONT screw with these. Nvidia is a pain with their nForce drivers)
2x256 Geil PC3200 Ram (running at 333FSB)
Radeon 9700Pro

Without VPU recover on, the game just freezes, screen dies, no sound. When I reboot windows says the driver failed to complete a screen draw.

Modified/Tweaked Catalysts. Sort of like the Omega drivers, except not totally crappy and worthless. ;)

I know you don't want to hear it, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was your Nforce2 drivers.

NWN's engine isn't exactly the most efficient thing in the world, so anything is possible. You could try the latest NF2 unified and then remove them with driver cleaner if they don't work. Other than the sound (have you tried running the game with sound disabled?) it's all I can think of that might be causing the problems.

I have the same processor as you and the same Chipset, though its an Asus vs a Shuttle and Neverwinter Nights has never locked up or crashed on me. I do have a lesser powered Ti4200 graphics card instead of the Radeon. I would agree with the group and say that you have driver problems. Reload the Nforce2 drivers with never versions, and reload your Radeon drivers. Check around the video card and motherboard forum here to find the best driver versions to load.

Good luck,
