I thought the single player in NWN1 was good. Not great, but still good. The expansion packs were both great. I can't wait for shipping - I'm gonna call some stores today, and if no one has it, I know gamestop will have it tomorrow

been hearing alot of positive things about the single player this time around

Yeah, sounds about right.
Planescape was a VERY good game that didn't sell, it still is worth playing it if you can find it.
It would be great if NWN 2 was on par with Planescape.

I just bought it from Gamestop in Philadelphia. (49.99 - no hot deal)

I just noticed that the graphics requirements are higher than they had announced. My Geforce 6200 isn't supposed to be supported. Hopefully it runs anyway, or else I'll be searching the forums for a cheap AGP video card

Yeah, I'll bump too. Stood in the rain for an hour and a half to get in at 5AM. Missed the hardware I wanted (of course) but at least I got NWN 2 for $25 and Scarface for $15.

Warning: This game is TERRIBLE. Controls are retarded and camera makes it unplayable.

Nwn2 is vastly inferior to the first series of games. It was OK (I bought it the first day it was available and beat it last week), but it is definitley not a worthy successor to the original.

The camera takes some gettting used to, and the hardware demands for 3-year-old-looking graphics are ridiculous. What bothered me most, however, was that the campaign is extremely linear. People often argue that games are too rigid in what you can and cannnot do, but NWN2 is truly linear. And, oh yeah, it's not only more narrow than the first games-- theres also lots less to do.

And I agree with the above poster who mentioned that the online play of the original was not good, although folks always talk about it like it was great. Frankly, I think the quality of the community content was very poor.

The *real* appeal of NWN is the persistent world scene. Persistent worlds that have a full development team and that are actively DM'd are incredible.

It's as close to pen & paper RPG'ing as you can get on a PC. That was what NWN was about from the start.

Single player is simply there to increase sales volume to cover development costs. But from the get-go it was designed to be a fully customizable DM run event.

For hard core D&D'ers/RPG's it was revolutionary.

actually it is in desperate need of a patch. i bought the game on Day 1 and have been unable to play it. if you have doubts, check the Support Forums at Obsidian or Atari.

oob it was playable for many ... then a series of patches fixed some things and broke others... they PROMISED a working patch by Thanksgiving but only released 1.03 BETA

be aware ;)

actually, they only promised the beta by thanksgiving. The 1.03 was always set to be released the following week. I have a complete opposite opinion of emilyek, btw. NWN2 blows NWN1 away, in terms of story, production values, voice acting, etc. NWN1's original campaign was weak, and disliked by many. NWN2 has a far more interesting story line, and superb voice acting. And to say the graphics look 3 years old, is silly. The textures are FAR more advanced than in NWN1, as are the lighting and effects. 1.03 fixes many of the speed issues with shadows and water rendering. NWN1 had tile based terrain with hills being displayed in silly looking straight angles. NWN2 has an all new mesh terrain engine with rolling hills.

It does have some bugs and performance problems, but Obsidian is hard at work on them, and patches are coming quickly.

i installed and played it tonight.... i've had no issues, and my old school rig (sempr64 S754 @ 2.1ghz, 1gig DDR 333, X850 XT) runs it quite well. i like the camera, although i wish it would rotate faster

You know, that's more or less the perception I held of NwN 1 -- that the multiplayer would be lame and that you could only have a few people on a server at one time, but I was totally wrong.

Two weeks ago, after letting the NwN single player sit idle for five months, I finally finished the original NwN-1 single player campaign. Then I thought I'd take a peek at the multiplayer stuff just to see what was out there. Then I discovered the persistent world servers. I thought to myself, "Holy cow!" I had no that anything like that was out there. I'm currently playing on the Amia server, which can hold up to 75 people at once:

If anything, it will give me something to do until the UT 2007 demo comes out.
