HOT DAMN! I'm IN! Thanks for the heads up! I didn't see this in the Fry's ad today!

Oh wait...that's because I live in the LA area...

It's a single-player game with a toolset. People will use the toolset to make both more single-player stuff and things you can play online (some single-shot adventures and some "persistent worlds"). You can also play the single-player campaign online with multiplayer.

Sounds pretty cool. I've been wanting to get a game for my laptop that doesn't need an internet connection necessarily to play it.

Good luck trying to run it! Unless you have a mid-high end graphics card in it...

Sadly, the graphics don't look that good. I've been playing Oblivion a lot lately and it absolutely KILLS any screenshot I've seen for NWN 2. Granted, graphics aren't everything but they do help.

If he means NWN1, then maybe. NWN1 had some very laudatory reviews from a lot of major sources, but I think the whole "dungeons and dragon" based system and the lack of "action" turn(s/ed) a lot of people away from it.

I'm a huge fan of NWN1 myself, hell I play it still, but it's not a game for everyone. I myself only really enjoy the powergaming of PvP Arenas or Worlds, honestly.

How about NWN 1? Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition is a great value with the included expansions, and should run on anything better than intel graphics.

I'd actually argue that what turned a lot of people away from it was its terrible single player mode- I know it's what kept me from getting any of the expansions and what's keeping me from getting NWN2.

I guess you could say that. You're right, it wasn't that good, but I thought NWN was all about the multiplayer possibilities from the outset.

NWN 2 is $34.99 at Buy.com if you use the Google Checkout thing before 10/31

Unfortunately you can't use Google Checkout for preorders and the release date is 1 day after the $10 off expires.

Myself I still play NWN 1 and am looking forward to this game.

The NWN 1 single player got creamed by most people as terrible, but I thought it was pretty great and enjoyed it much more than the multi-player. I don't get the complaints, it had a more creative, richer story with lots of interesting party options and chalenging combat than a lot of other RPG's I see. And I only played barely to chapter 2...

The reason, presumably, is that the companies behind NWN (Interplay and Bioware) were the same as were behind BG/BG2, Fallout 1/2, Planescape: Torment, etc. Overall, a lot of fans of the two companies wanted a 3d single player game with easy multiplayer and design options, and what was released was a 3d multiplayer game with a lousy single player experience.

KOTOR/KOTOR2 (both NWN engine based) were certainly improvements in the single player department, but there was still a lack of massive play time and 4-5 NPC parties that made the 2d games so enjoyable.

I loved singleplayer in NWN1, got the CE on preorder. I only cared/care about the singleplayer, never messed with multiplayer.

I just don't see the single player experience that way, it was great I thought. Nice to see I'm not alone, araczynski agrees.

I've never seen a game with such consistent criticism that seems so baseless.

NWN was developed by Bioware
Bioware = Baldur's Gate, MDK, KOTOR, Jade Empire, etc

NWN2 is developed by Obisidian (ex-Black Isle)
Black Isle/Obs = Fallout 1/2, Planescape, Icewind Dale, KOTOR2, etc

been hearing alot of positive things about the single player this time around
