I'll be going to a Meet the Firms night, so I figure I should have several copies of my updated resume with me.

Nevermind. :p Thanks to everyone who offered critiques, and especially to Michael, 3ChordCharlie, and DaveSimmons!

Mellow out dude, you're two tense.

Past in your first work item, present in your second. As Tull says, let's go living in the past.

Otherwise it looks good, if a little John Woo.

John Woo?

And you're right, I'm tense. I'm also tired. :( Two more weeks until finals are over.

To me it looks like information overload. Sell what needs to be sold. I'd say edit it down to make it easier to read.

Edit: because most likely the person sorting through resumes' will give each one a couple seconds tops.

Summary of qualifications

This is not needed and you're not a leader yet, you're a professional at best. If you really want to have something here, concentrate on hard working, flexible and willing to learn.

Jobs:

researchED historical records - keep the tenses the same

I went through the same process 17 years ago. Don't try and over impress them with the resume, you have basic experience only. Dress well and conservatively.

All the bullets.

(Movie nerd joke.)

On reflection, Michael is right about trimming it a bit. One he didn't mention was cutting the second Dean's List item (they'll get the hint from everything else and DL is just GPA anyway).

Looks too crowded. Even though the lines do an excellent job dividing your sections, they add greatly to the crowded look. Bigger font and more spacing, meaning you will have to get rid of stuff. For this interview, you should get rid of whatever that doesn't relate to the company, ie, the Eagle scout award, that's taking a whole line.

Edit.
Okay, just printed it out. Font looks good, but it takes two pages. Everything below "Developed algorithms to expedite further research" is on page two.

Man, I'd forgotten about that.

Present tense for your present job is fine.

I assume in the real version all the sections are indented equally - if not they should be.

If you expect to use any technical or other skills, you might include them between 'summary' and 'employment'; i.e. if you want to highlight particular relevant computer skills.

Other than that it looks pretty good.

Looks pretty good to me. Seems a bit bunched together. My old man is a certified public accountant, I will see if I can have him take a look at it too.

I am an intelligent, hardworking student with research experience. I am responsible, dedicated, and I am willing and able to learn new subjects beyond my areas of academic concentration or current line of work.

could be:

I am intelligent and hardworking with good research experience. I am flexible and willing to perform new duties and am willing to relocate for the right opportunity. I understand the importance of providing clients professional service and am dedicated to making sure a task is complete and well done.

Michael

ps - 3chordcharlie is right, a list of the computer programs you can use is good. Leave no doubt that you can use Word, Excel and Powerpoint. This belongs at the bottom.

Wow, that is an awesome summary of qualifications. If you don't mind I'll use that as a starting point and build on it.

I never would have thought that knowing Word, Excel, Ppt, etc, would have to be asked. I'm thinking I shouldn't add an entirely new section just for computer skills - maybe in the activities section?

According to your resume, you appear to have worked in an office before...

Did you notice the computer-literacy of the people around you?

Besides that, it's just one of those things that hiring folks put into 'qualifications' to make it seem like they're being selective. Even if you didn't know them, anyone can learn the programs in an hour, but if you don't say you know them, you'll be at a disadvantage for some jobs.
