I've checked the thread for free software: Avid won't take AVI files, and VirtualDub doesn't seem like it's what I need.

I have a bunch of Friends episodes in MPG and AVI. (Those that are in AVI are probably compressed using DivX) I'm trying to splice scenes out of the files, and Windows Movie Maker is half-working. It gets the job done, but after each splice, I have to reboot my computer b/c it crashes every time I work with another clip. Is there any software out there that's a bit more robust that would serve my needs? (and is free?)

Thanks!
