Nevermind

I knew what it was, I guess since it is a "curio/relic" then it is non-functioning and incapable of being made to fire?

I'm curios how much you paid. No need to tell if you don't want to, or you can just PM me as I won't pass the info along.

Very 😎

Are you going to fully restore it?

Yeah I plan on it. But since it's a C&R gun I need to figure out how much of that paint I can strip off without hurting the value. It's covered in so much junk I'd like to just dip the thing in a vat of stripper.

Oh sorry, I didn't see your post since it was at the same time as mine.

I thought it was going to be a car.
Me too...I was thinking, I've never heard of an MG called 08!

MG is obviously for machine gun. 08 is the year of introduction...like the MG 42 was first used in 1942.

I am glad you found out what the deal was. This makes things much easier and more fun.😀

Be prepared to spend a small fortune in ammo once you get it working.

I would suggest getting it looked over by a gunsmith and have him install any missing or damaged parts as you find replacements.

As far as refinishing goes, I think you would need to get it sand or bead blasted to take care of that surface rust and remaining finish
I am not sure what the original finish would have been. You will have many options in this area.

As for refinishing, a guy in town has a major refinishing outfit. He has big dipping tanks and all sorts of that stuff. I've heard he's also really into guns and the like. 🙂 So if it turns out I'm going to get it all stripped off I'm going to take the gun over to him.

Now you need one of those German hats with the spike, and you can look the part. "GOOTEN TAG SIR!" Cool gun btw, I wonder tho, where are you gonna find replacement parts.................. (lol they prolly still make those in the french army, nevermind)

I just got my C&R license... I am looking forward to increase my collection...

Who do you apply through? I'm not 21 yet so I can't do it yet but I'd like to get it as soon as possible once I turn 21.

I have had my C&R license for almost a year.

It can be hard on the wallet.😀
So many good deals.

You apply to the ATF. Here is a link with some pretty good info.

Eep... I guess I should start calling you "sir" from now on when I quote your posts.

<--- Only a piddly LCpl in the Marines, won't be going for officer for another few years.
