Well, if you do the right thing, how can you be judged? First of all, I have been trading on these boards for longer than many people have been here. It is always the seller's responsibility to get product or funds to the other party. If USPS screwed up on something you sent, then you should immediately make it right with the other party. The issue is between you and USPS, so it is unacceptable to make the other party wait. You should reimburse whoever it is, then pursue getting your claim thru USPS.
I always handle it, if I have a problem. I have had products lost and even had a box with 2 CPU's crushed one time. Did I make the buyer wait? NO! I sent more CPU's to the buyer and got my money back from USPS about 2 months later. If you do this ethically, there is no reason to leave. If you feel you must leave, then you need to look in the mirror, as you are probably running from Your responsibility. Truth isn't always pleasant.....but doing it right pays off in the long run. :D
