okay, i've seen turtle beach HPA, and i really like what it looks like. trouble is, it's mic looks terrible. see it here

i am not a fan of detachable mics, for the simple reason that that joint could get worn out, and the mic just falls out. i'm thinking of getting the product, and just immediately after getting it, duct-taping (or something similar) the mic into place.

is there any headset like that that doesnt have a detachable mic? i'm looking for a boom mic that is fixed to the headset, on headphones of similar quality to the HPA.

i've seen this, and it's *exactly* what i'm looking for, save for one small flaw. it's for the damn xbox, and wont work on a computer at all.

i saw the iCEMAT, but it's not a boom mic. beyond that, it doesnt have the true surround sound of having a shitload of speakers right next to your head.

anyone got any other ideas? i'm looking for under 100 dollars, not particularly interested in music playing, and want headphones comfortable enough for extended wear.

I'd stay away from the Earforce HPA. I'm currently using one for gaming and it's 'fair', nothing special about it. The mic is actually quite nice and indeed very secure, this is by far the best feature of the headset. The flexy arm takes the brunt of any force so the connector doesn't get damaged.

Some negatives of the HPA are low quality and narrow range drivers, very uncomfortable pads with a tight fit (no big heads!), and a required wall wart power supply. The Razor Barricuda is actually version 2 of the HPA. It uses the exact same frame with updated pads, and a USB power connector. If you have any urge in the HPA I'd suggest the Razor as it fixes the issues the HPA had. Also the Razor tops out at 20KHz (HPA at 16KHz).

Another option of course is a quality stereo headset. I think the Sennheiser would work well as an affordable mid range solution in this regard. If you have more cash on hand check out the Audio-Technica ATH-A900 (A700 if you're on a budget) or the Beyerdynamic DT770 with a separate microphone, these headphones have great imagining in games and are truly the best quality you can get.
