Never Winter Nights: How do I cast spells (simple question)

I'm a level 11 wizard and I've been hotkeying all the spells I ever use. When I right click my char and I go to cast spell, then a spell I have memorized for some reason they are always grayed out - and yet if I set it as a hotkey or quick cast or whatever I can cast it no problem...how do I do this?

Thanks in advance, my pretties.

I accidently corrupted my char ( a fighter ) by having him learn wisardry under rouge. Now everytime I open my speel book I get an instant freeze. I don't cast any spells at all, so you got me :)

You can drag spells from your book to your quickbar. That's the simplest way I know.

Open your spellbook and drag the spells you want to your quickbar and cast em from there... that's the easiest way. (I think that's the only reliable way).

Also, make sure you have enough rest to cast your spells.

I don't think you can right click and navigate through the menus to cast a spell, but I could be wrong... there's simply too many spells in the game for you to be able to choose one to cast that way...

The regular spell menu is a bit clunky IMO. For example, if you want to cast certain spells on an enemy character, you have to right-click on the ENEMY instead of yourself to bring up an active spell. Quick slots are SOOOO much better!

maybe they are greyed out because you haven't memorized them?
I don't know, I haven't dabbled in spellcasting yet...
my next char is a chaotic evil monk assasin.... should be fun :)

Yep!.. using hotkeys is so much better,I use all the F keys from 1 to 12 plus CTRL+F keys for my cleric,he kicks major butt at level 17 :).

Apparently, everybody here must have lost the instruction booklet that came with their retail purchase...

Well I have a level 14 fighter and I just do the recommended level ups which has given me something like 10 heal points or something, I can't remember, but I don't know how to heal myself or anybody else for that matter. I've just killed everything first before I need healing so far, even taken to selling my heal potents, but it would be nice to know if it's possible and how. Be and the Barbarian are a real pair. Everybody dies pretty fast. Maybe I got the game set to training wheels, I don't know.

The heal ability lets you use those medical kits (not the potions). If you're not trained in healing, you will get a *failed* message more often. Kind of a stupid ability if you ask me as you can just use a potion without having to spend your ability points on a heal ability.

If the game seems easy, you can just up the difficulty level.

Read the manual ;),you can heal with potions by going to your inventory and right click on the potion then click on the big cross in the lower right side (medical or first aid sign, whatever you want to call it) then click on the target ,either yourself or somebody else, you can also drag the potion to your main character on screen,I like being cleric because I can also have hot keys for healing spells :).

Yes the medical kits work the same way.

Doesn't the heal skill points also make you better at using the kit?
i.e. more restored hp per use?

Yes, the more points in heal the more you will heal with a kit. ALSO, if you have decent skill you can cure poison and disease with one of those kits. You never know when you are going to run out of antidote, and some of the diseases are just nasty.
