Dandelions are actually pretty cool plants. My neighbor used to have TONS in his yard, he had a few bee colonies feeding off his yard alone. I used to go up with a plastic container and cover to catch them lol. They get super pissed off when you shake the container. Used to have a trill out of it. Come to think of it I was a little psycho in my child hood... some of the stuff we've done.

Honeybees are tame. Want to get some good riled up stinging insects?
1) A nest of bald-faced hornets, about the size of two basketballs, whacked with a long metal rod.
2) An underground hornet nest, hit with a pickaxe.

They get quite pissed off, and they fly a long way from the nest to seek out whodunit.

Honeybees though, them's good critters, don't bother them.

Incidentally, an easy way to kill an underground hornet nest: Place a heavy clear glass bowl over the entrance. Since it lets light through, they aren't likely to see it as an obstruction, at least not one that triggers digging behavior. So they all collect under the bowl, and eventually die of either overheating or starvation.

lol yeah hornets can be aggressive. Then there's killer bees, but don't think those actually exist, they're an urban legend, or do they actually exist?

Considering all the crazy stuff we did as kids to bees, I've never got stung, but I did get stung by a hornet once when I was like 10 feet away from the nest and my grandpa was right AT the nest poking it with a stick. I swear he's like immune to that kind of stuff lol. He was all calm while doing it while were standing back telling him he's crazy, and I'm the one that gets stung. My cousin got stung lip from inside the mouth (yes the hornet when IN his mouth), that was hilarious. Never seen a lip get that big. LOL

Thankfully hornets don't hurt that much when it's just one or two, but they can be really painful when half the colony is on you. It's like a horse fly, but the pain lasts longer.

Killer bees are quite real. Africanized honey bees. Story goes, someone brought them over to...I think it was South America, hoping to breed them to get better honey production. Turns out they were better at swarming and stinging things. But some got loose and bred with the more docile European honey bees. Result: The aggression remained.

My closest call with a hornet nest was back home mowing the lawn. I walked through some overhanging bush branches, and happened to notice something large out of the corner of my eye. But I kept walking.
Luckily I didn't bump it with my shoulder - turned out to be that big 2x basketball-sized nest I mentioned earlier. Not a single sting.
However, at my grandmother's house, there was a nest of them hanging under the eves of the roof, maybe 15 feet above the ground. One of them decided that was too close, and stung my leg.

And of course I also got stung several times over the years while mowing the lawn - run over an underground nest. The vibration alerts them to trouble, and they start pouring out of the nest just as my feet are passing over the entrance.

Too bad they can't be reasoned with, at least on our terms. Maybe if I'd coat myself with queen bee pheremones before starting to mow, they'd leave me alone. I'd just be covered in horny drones before too long.

Horse flies - ever seen one of the fun ones? Not the normal-sized 0.5 - 0.75" things. I mean the ones that are closer to 1.5" long.

Fractal Foods (TM)?

Veins form using fractals, plant and animal. Hell, evolutionary design is governed by it, eseentially. Fractals allow life to basically 'feel' its way through problems and solve them.
