Never Trust ORBITZ for Hotel reservations

A friend of mine is driving cross country, so today he is leaving the Grand Canyon headed east and aiming for Gallup, NM. He calls me and asks me to book them a room if I can and I go on orbitz and find a cheap hotel and book it. Well they get there and the hotel says there are no rooms available.

I call Orbitz and they said that my credit card was not charged because its not a pay in advance hotel (i guess some of theirs you do pay in advance). All the guy can say is, well we can try booking you in another one, but he had no gaurantee that there would be a room there!

luckily my friend drove around and found a different hotel. I felt like I was in that Seinfeld episode where he has to explain to the car rental person exactly what a reservation is.

Ouch...personally, I've never had any issue with them. Sucks for your friend though, damn.
