Hi!

Well I started up a game last night and noticed a cycle that repeated every 1.5 seconds. The screen would freeze for about 1/2 a sec then continue on with the game. Also, if you open up a minimized window and drag it around the desktop, it pauses for about 1/2 a second every1.5 seconds.
Since this is a brand new system with a brand new install of XP I went to Task manager to see if any memory resident bugs were running. What I noticed was this.
The cpu has a constant usage of about 13% and it jumps to 15% occasionally during an idle state. It is showing as the Image name SYSTEM.
At that point I exited and booted to safe mode. No cpu usage at idle state. I have trend micro and scanned....nothing. Spybot....nothing. Adaware....nothing.
Restored it to a few weeks ago....nothing.
I have "Hijack this!" but could not see anything weird.

Have you tried using msconfig and unchecking all the startups that you don't need? You could do it a few at a time and see if that's what's causing it. It'll be a long and tedious process to troubleshoot but maybe it'll help. Also check at Blackviper's site and see what services can be shut down. Just google Blackviper and services.

HTH

Well all I can say is man I am a tard. I moved my desk and when I moved it I plugged in my Zip250 drive into the parallel port. Well it wasn't plugged in before I set up my system and when i unplugged it and rebooted, my cpu usage dropped to 0% at idle.........I guess it was ok since Trend Micro kept finding virus and virus just recently. I gues my MSI board doesnt like the Zip drive.....

Thanks anyway man! :)

I've found that some games (Doom3, for example) don't play well with real-time AV scanners.

For both Trend Micro and NOD32, adding the Doom3 folder to the real-time scanner exception list will speed up scene-loading.

Hope this helps!
