never seated a heatsink before

So I got my shipment in the mail, and going through the styrofoam I realized I was sent an oem when I had been expecting a stock. Turned out I ordered wrong. Now I've never seated a heatsink onto a fan before, I'm getting a 92mm panaflo and a thermalright xp-90 heatsink. Theres a metal top to the cpu chip, is that the surface that I should be binding(with silver fox paste) to the heatsink or is there more to it? Any small tips for this proceedure, never done it before an am quite afraid about screwing up.
