Turn autoplay off for all devices, and you shouldn't have any problems. You then scan the drive like you would any untrusted file you get while out and about.

Actually is there a way to even get an autorun.inf file to work on usb sticks? That could be very useful for certain situations like running an winaudit or other script that, for whatever reason can't be done through the network.

Yea, that'll work fine. That's how the default PortableApps loadout works. It doesn't work on my machines, but it does on suckers who have autoplay turned on on their computers.
