Never Played a Zelda Game

Hey Guys,

I've always heard good things about the Zelda series, but I've never actually played any of the games. I'm not sure how I've spent this many years gaming, and never played one, but hey that's what happened. Anyway I have been looking at the reviews for Link Between worlds and it looks really good. Am I going to be ruining anything or missing out on anything by playing it before the older Zelda games?

If so which are the important Zelda games? I know both LTTP and OOT are very highly rated so I was considering playing one or both of those first. Thoughts?

I would suggest playing LTTP first since LBW is suppossed to be a direct sequel to it, also it's one of the best in the series, OOT and LTTP are my favorite zeldas

I played Zelda 1, 2, LTTP. I briefly looked at the N64/Cube Zeldas, and they just didn't feel right to me. Similar to how I hated FF7+ but loved FF1-6.

Average reviews are very high though, so don't take my word for it, you may love them!

i'd play LTTP over OOT if i hadn't played either before. i think going in that order will make you appreciate OOT more as well. OOT is the last zelda game that i really enjoyed. wind waker was weak and i got bored with the wii/gamecube one and stopped it after like 6 hours.

Also try the first Zelda on GB, Link's Awakening. Arguably every bit as good as LttP. Some will say it's even better. I'm on the fence in that debate.

I've tried a number of Zelda games, and most of them didn't resonate with me at all. But Ocarina of Time was absolutely incredible. So OoT would have my vote as a "played a few Zelda games and doesn't really like them" gamer.

While I disagree that Link's Awakening is better than LttP, it is definitely good. In fact, I've really enjoyed pretty much all of the handheld Zelda games aside from Spirit Tracks which I couldn't get into.

I've noticed that Zelda fans seem to heavily favor their first Zelda game. I think this is because, since LttP, the formula has been pretty strongly set, and it feels a bit less impressive after the first game.

I personally don't think that there's any reason not to just start with A Link Between Worlds... and think if you play a game like LttP first, A Link Between worlds won't be quite as enjoyable.

Eh I've played them since NES. Zelda II was actually the first I played but my favorite is LttP.

Just started link to the past. I've just gotten the first pendant, and got a dash attack move. This game has aged surprisingly well.

Top down Zelda's only for me. Zelda 3 and the gameboy ones being the best imo. I'm currently really enjoying A link between worlds.
Forgot to mention, I really dislike the music in these Zelda's, it's my only real complaint, that and the complete lack of A.I.

(goofed off in Zelda I & II) but.. LTTP, Links Awakening, OoT, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Spirit Tracks, Minish Cap, TP, Skyward Sword and finally this new one...

This is the first game to hook me in to play all the time when I can since OoT. I really think playing LTTP first is a good idea, part of what makes this game so good is how much it relates back to what happened previously. I like seeing the similarities and how they present areas and enemies vs how they were previously.

Of course, I was a big fan of LTTP back in the day, so might not be a big deal to someone just starting. But I remember a ton as I see it on this new game and it just makes it that much better.

Ultimately Zelda is the one franchise that gets me to buy Nintendo's damn products. And then I end up picking up a few Mario games 🙂
