Never buy an Audigy 2 Value

What a pain in the ass.

Creative will not release new drivers to fix the infamous EAX bug. My system has never been stable since I got the card 3 months ago.

It sounded good. But back to the stability of my Soundstorm I go 🙁

You sure you installed it right? My buddy does "light" gaming with his rig and it works fine.

So he's a dumb dumb. 😀😛

Naw, I've tried 3 PCI slots and every set of drivers I could find. Which is like two, because Creative licks my scrotum.

And this issue effects Audigy 2 VALUES only...so other Audigy 2 experiences are not relevant.

There has been talk of a strange EAX bug...but even when I disable EAX it is significantly more stable but still unacceptable (play for an hour and then a hard lock with loud squealing from the speakers).

With EAX enabled, I crash in 10 minutes or less.

Creative and Driver Support should never be used in the same sentence. But thanks for the heads up! I was about to recommend this card to a friend and I guess I'll recommend a different model.

Nice sig... now back on topic: I don't think I ever will buy a Creative product again. The last one I bought was a Sound Blaster 16 ISA back when we got our first Dell (it was included, a used Dell we bought with 1024x768 15" monitor!). I'm using a Philips PSC705 5.1 EAX 1/2 hardware accelerated sound card. 🙂

Creative products seem hit and miss. I bought a zen micro and the first was DOA (at least the USB didn't work). The second worked fine for 2 weeks, then the same thing happened all of a sudden. I have had my third for about 3 weeks now (figgers crossed). I live about a mile from their customer service place, so I can just drop it off and pick up a new one...

anyone know if this is still the case??

trying to decide between the value and the zs...wouldn't use the features of either but want EAX and don't want to install my old live x gamer. Thanks

I had exactly the same problem a while back.... Tried hundreds of things before it finally worked. Can you give your detailed system specs?

I don't consider the ZS and the value to be in the same boat. The DACs are much better on the ZS.

For a different reasons that they've been including DRM in their drivers for the value (not sure about others).

Creative sucks, they dont even put their drivers on their website, if you lose the CD, you need to call and get a new one.

They're only updates on their site.

Oh and The ZS is better than the Value.

Perhaps the only thing that's great about Creative is EAX...which they took ALL the patents to.

EAX is far from great.

Yeah the whole driver thing is pretty silly, why not just bundle complete drivers like every other compant?

Added Features or Enhancements:

Enables Digital Rights Management support.

Requirements:

Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value series internal audio device.
Original driver from Installation and Applications CD installed.

I took some Audigy 2 ZS drivers and installed them on my Regular Audigy 2, worked fine, I even got the ZS features.

I don't know what you're talking about with this "EAX bug." I've had an Audigy2 value in my gaming comp since June 2003 and I've played all major games w/EAX using the card and I've had no problems with it. Under what circumstances do you get problems?

So what makes the ZS better than the Value short of the firewire port (which wouldn't be used)....

I generally play with headphones or two speakers...thanks

The ZS has better DACs (Digital to Analog Converters), so it produces a better sound. Now whether you have good enough equipment (or ears) to hear the difference is an entirely different matter.

Ariafrost, any idea of how to get a Phillips PSC702 2.1 to work in XP?

Sorry about my threadjack.

what bug you are talking about ?

I have a value and no problems with it..gaming and mp3 and everything is fine. For $42 a top-notch card,
