I've become the default IT guy for our company for at least 6 years, I 've never had a minute of training and I have yet to be wrong about the defect in the computer yet (even over the phone). I'm due and it scares me. I think it's all gonna come in one "fell swoop".

I read everything I can get my hands on, but I think @least some is luck. Anybody had this kind of luck where they work?

I have been wrong on a few occasions here. But let's face it, the kind of problems WE have are wierd, and those we ASK about are even wieder. :)

Well, I am a computer genius compared to the people I work with but it has a reverse effect, they act like I am an evil 1337 hAx0R, anything that goes wrong with any computer is somehow my fault, but when they screw up their computer they come running to me to fix it :|

We run a database program that gets updated every month, the process is simple, shut down the program, run the update, restart the program, this one dumbass didnt know what he was doing and tried to run the update without shutting down the program and screwed up his computer bad, he called me and I was in the process of fixing it when the boss came along and all that was said is that the computer was fsked up and there I was working on it, it was assumed that I did something to screw it up and if I said the other guy did it then I would be "pointing fingers" I am working hard at getting out of there! :|

I have stayed soooo far away from demonstrating a simple knowledge of the software they tend to screw up (pretty simple stuff). OMG. I already get in the position that I have to explain what I did (hardware-wise) to NOT be the "scape-goat" for their software Fvck-ups. I find myself "taking the fifth" on EVERY friggin question they ask. I don't care if it's a simple "how do I cut & paste". I claim ignorance. You may have to know the people I work with. A calculator & TV remote seems to be the extent of their "technological know-how". My 53 year-old house-wife mom could run circles around these guys. My mom just shows you the difference between paying attention (WANTS to learn) and going through the motions (co-workers).

I have done a lot of reading as well as some other things to give me backgroud knowledge in the IT field. However, I don't really get to put it to use. I usually act as more of a computer consultant. I help people cuztomize their systems to give them exactly what they need at the cheapest price. I have been wrong enough times, but usually when I toy around with a computer I can figure out why it's acting up. Fooling around with them is the best way to get results. =)
