Big story going since yesterday ....

Cliven Bundy is the rights-holder. The rest of the family also helps to operate the ranch.

Basically the Bundy family has grazing, water ...etc rights on the land, to care for the cattle and environment.

Action on video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhJ6H9vlEDA

Drudge's been all over on this news, here's a screenshot (ah it's been up a day, he took it down just a moment ago before i could copy links)

Facts:

  • Size of the ranch is 600000 acres.

  • Feds make up ridicolous reasons, and hipocricy, they say there are endangered specieis which aren't even native in the area, but then when they take over (other ranches) they say there is not enough federal money to care for animals so they kill them. Also the "stopped paying grazing fees" is part of that same BS.

  • Feds came with snipers, contract cowboys, swat teams, armored trucks, UPDATE: HELICOPTERS; totally ignoring his rights, which he had for over a 100 years.
  • Nevada state governor is with the family, saying that the Feds are only doing this for intimidation.
  • Nevada's land is 90% owned by the Federal Government.
  • Many of the Bundi family members were tasered at gunpoint.
  • Big and growning protest has emerged, more media coverage in coming in next days.
  • Some women were pushed face forward into the ground.
  • Rancher's son was beat up as well by the feds, there was blood.

Calvin Bundy on-scene Exclusive Interview Live (now over, there is no other media there, yet?)
(pending youtube upload later in the day - will update when necessary)

iw-reportbundyranch.jpg

  • He Says: It's not clear who owns this land, but it points to State Of Nevada, as one judge said locally and governor agres, the property is VERY OLD (+100yr), which makes birocracy problematic, the problems is with him "WHO TO PAY THE GRAZING FEE TO", Cliven Bundy does not recognize the Federal Government to be the owner! That's why he won't pay em. There appears to be a contradiction between land records in State Of Nevada and the Federal Judges.

This thread is about, what's and how it's happening, not claiming the "grazing fees" thing is true or not.

Legal dispute, court order or not, federal agents with ARs, dogs, attacking women, being violent towards non-violent protestors is not appropriate.

....

And in typical fed government fashion they will hugely overreact and then blame someone else.

And just to clarify, I don't think anyone is saying the farmers are 100% in the right... But the response from the feds is inappropriate.

Basically they do these things in a way where they almost seem to WANT it to end in violence. They egg these people on. Then when they hole up in a house and fight back everybody acts surprised.

I call on the State of Nevada to deploy the national guard in defense of the farm. To authorize the use of force to do so.

Upon review it's not what some media makes it out to be. There's a perfectly legitimate legal dispute at the center of this story.

I thought everyone was arming themselves against any such government activities. Where is the armed revolt (that's used as a major reason against gun controls)? Wussies.

Bundy's beef with federal land management officials dates back to 1993, according to federal officials, when Bundy's allotment for grazing his cattle on public land was modified to include protections for the desert tortoise. Bundy, who told the Associated Press his family has been ranching this part of Nevada since the 1870s, did not accept the modified terms, and continued to let his cattle graze anyway.

After legal maneuverings on both sides, a Nevada district court judge in 2013 permanently enjoined Bundy's cattle (some 900, by the government's count) from grazing on public property. The judge reiterated that decision in 2013 and authorized the U.S. government to impound the cattle.

I'm a US Taxpayer. If he doesn't want to abide by the rules set down by the BLM, he should get his fucking cattle off my land.

Are the Feds going overboard on this, absolutely, but is the rancher in the wrong, absolutely.

"Last week, they began seizing cattle found grazing on adjacent federal lands in violation of a law meant to protect an endangered desert tortoise."

"Mr. Bundy has been in trespass on public lands for more than 20 years," Cannon said, adding that he owes the federal government some $1.1 million in unpaid grazing fees."

Does this family own this land? Who does it belong to, on paper, etc?

I don't understand this type of law, I don't live in US, but what I have heard from the Rancher (not owner) that he has several rights but not the ownership, the ownership is state, and in nevada it means it's from all the people, not the federal government, the people and the governor spoke against the feds so it's unlikely that feds could take that away legally, that's why this is a story, they are doing it illegaly and forcefully.

You should watch the full interview i posted at the end of the OP.

From what I have read, the Feds modified Bundys use of public land. Courts backed the Feds, while Bundy left his cattle on public land in spite of rulings. Feds are now moving in to remove the cattle from public land and arresting anyone who tries to stop them.
I admit I have no idea how the private rancher normally contracts use of public land for grazing, so if someone else can chime in on that I would appreciate it.

What do you mean not really? They are destroying infrastructure and running cattle to death.

He put himself in this situation.

It's been 20 years for him to make it right. Instead, he pissed them off.

All he had to do was pay for the grazing fees, or get the fuck off of the land he does NOT own.

He has no right to the land, unless he pays grazing fees.

He did not pay the grazing fees and was ordered to stop tresspassing and using the land.

Also, I can not watch the video (its blocked at work), but the link I provided states all the facts.

This man is a fucking free loading tress passer. But, the tin foil hate wearing government haters are making it look like he hasn't been stealing for 20 years and does not deserve to be treated as a trespasser.

Yet, anyone of these mother fuckers would be crying to shoot him and his cattle dead, if he trespassed on their land/property.

Hey, you guys on these forums set the rules, not me: cross over into property you don't own or have the right to be on, get shot.

This has gone through courts, 20 years, etc.

It's a done deal.

You can't make an exception for the government, but are perfectly OK for a landowner to shoot someone trespassing on their property.

this dude had it coming

but WTF

"Mr. Bundy has been in trespass on public lands for more than 20 years," Cannon said, adding that he owes the federal government some $1.1 million in unpaid grazing fees.

The bureau last week announced the area would be closed through May 12 while contractors conduct the roundup using helicopters, vehicles and temporary pens. Cannon said the agency paid the contractors $966,000.

that's terrible economics for this terrible PR they are receiving. probably a HUGE net loss after you factor in all the staff time over 2 federal court cases and this circus

Do you live in Nevada?
"Rules" of the BLM are stupid and illegal.

Why do you people quote mainstream news, which wasn't even talking to anyone up there directly, anyways, just watch the interview, everything's explained.

I thought everyone was arming themselves against any such government activities. Where is the armed revolt (that's used as a major reason against gun controls)? Wussies.

The good never start wars. But they will respond if provoked. They're waiting for the oppressor to make the first shot, that's rule number one.

The government has cuddled this rancher for decades, using your tax dollars to subsidy his distruction of the public lands. It is more than past time for the government to follow the law and remove his trespass cattle from the public lands.

You keep yapping on a subject I never addressed. I said govt destroys things. You keep talking about this guy had it coming. I never once said anything about this guys claims.

That said, the govt is doing a magnificent job from what I am reading. Running cattle to death and destroying infrastructure. Mission Accomplished!

By this logic the government shouldn't enforce the law against car theft because locking up thieves is expensive.

The rancher was getting a handout and decided to flip off the giver (us).

And, that free loader did a wonderful job of avoiding paying his fees, being a leech and skirting his responsibilities - for well over 2 decades.

Agree. But this is typical of what they do. It's better for the cows to be destroyed than if he uses them to help others.
Declaring it open season and letting hunters take home a freezer-full would have been a better solution. Those cattle were taxpayer-raised so it would have been a way to let at least some of the taxpayers benefit.
