NetZero without their software?

Hey all, I just got a cheepy $10/month Netzero account for when the broadband goes down. You have to use their software though and it's a pain in the behind.

I tried just making a connection via dial-up networking but any time I open a browser it redirects to their tech/help page and says "software not found" or something like that.

Any ideas? The biggest reason I don't want to use their software is that they download "extras" to your PC and you can't control them coming so while they are downloading it eats your connection.

Bleh. Thank you all in advance.

not to stray from your point... but your broadband goes down enough to justify you getting a second service? perhaps you should just find a more stable ISP

1) You need to use there S/W. Their clients communicate with their servers which act as proxies.

2) They (Net Zero & Juno) have FREE 10hr/month accounts for dial-up / per system

Hopefully your power does not go out for more than 20 hrs/month and you need to surf/nef/research during that time frame.

If I had a generator the cable modem would be powered and I wouldn't need the dialup!
😉

I will also end up using this account on the road when I can't get a broadband connection at a hotel or office.

Sounds like a candidate for SBC. 🙂
