Hi I just configured the 2 clients and they both can see each other. I enabled file sharing and that works to a degree. I thought with file sharing I'd be able to see a complete directory of the XP computer from the 98SE computer and vice versa. All I can share at this point is whatever is in the shared documents folder. I tried to put a shortcut to the C-Drive of my XP computer and the 98SE sees it but it won't access the XP C-Drive. Are there other configurations I am overlooking to be able to share both computers entirely, not limiting them to a shared folder?

You need to share the root (full drive) of the C: drive to the EVERYONE group and then log in using the user name and password of an account that already exists on the Windows XP computer.

Or

You need to share the root of the C: drive and give an account that already exists on the Windows XP computer permission to access the share, then connect to the share from the Windows 98 computer using that user name and password.

Or

You need to create a user account on the Windows XP machine with the same user name and password as the user that is logged in to the Windows 98 machine, then share the root of the C: drive and give that user access to the share.

Thanks Fardringle for the suggestions. Before you replied I looked online and found out I needed to share the actual drives. Well I can access all the drives of the WinXP pc from the 98SE pc, but not vice versa. There isn't any kind of way to map a drive in Network Neighborhood in 98SE. How do I work around this difference between OSes?

You do not have to work any differences, you set evry computer by it self to Share.

Sharing setting in Win98!!! (http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.aspx?i=92 )

Make sure that you Logon as Client for Microsoft Network.

There are three places to be checked for sharing:

The first two are in Control Panel, Network.

1. The Protocol that you are using for sharing, has to be bound to Client for Microsoft Network, and Sharing is Checked in the protocol's properties menu.

2. The general File and Print Sharing has to be installed, and checked.

The third in "My Computer" folder.

3. Individual Drive or/and printer has to be checked for sharing.
Right click on the device to share, choose properties, click on the sharing Tab, check Shared As, and give it a name.

If it does not work, log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.
