so i have a linksys befrs41 router and i want to setup the 4 computers in my apartment so we can share files. i setup the workgroup to be called "workgroup" and gave the computers names. right now, 3 computers are up, 2 xp and 1 2000. the xp ones work fine with each other but the 2000/xp combo is messed up. the 2000 computer cannot see the other two computers on the network, while my xp computer can see the 2000 one, but cannot access it, i get an error about some adminstrative bs. any ideas here?

Go to Jack's Site and follow the instructions for sharing files etc. I would look closely at the details of using NetBEUI for file sharing purposes because it seems to be the most consistant, "always on" way to go.

Just make sure the 2000 machine is configured with enable netbios over tcp/ip and you'll be fine. There is no configuration needed for Netbui. As long as they all belong to the same workgroup and all are on the same subnet, you'll have no problems. And check to make sure you started Computer Browser in the services on the 2000 machine. You can't browse through Network Places without it.

thanks a lot, i was unable to find a good website that explained things as well as 'jacks site', got it all to work now finally 🙂
