Networking Woes!!!!!

I am seriously confused about how to setup wireless networking and i want to know how to do everything before i buy the stuff. I need to network 2 comps right now that cannot be networked any way besides wirelessly. I am thinking about buying two Dlink usb wireless adaptors due to their good price and performance. How would i setup the network with those two devices. I need to set them up in adhoc mode and i need to know how to do that?
