Networking with Vista

Networking with 3 XP Pros and 2 Vistas. All can network together except one of the Vistas shows up on the network map but won't let any other computer into it's system. It can read others just fine, it just won't let anybody in. It used to work and then started blocking. All have internet connections. I've tried everything I know. This same Vista won't open Windows Firewall it says it can't start the service. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It uses Norton Security for the current firewall. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
The Princess

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.

Enable simple file sharing on all computers, that should eliminate that issue. Disable the firewall on all computers, including any Norton crap. If you are behind a router there's no real need for a firewall.

Yeah, and if applications are running amok going to the Internet. Or if there is Trojans and virus connecting in and out, what then.

Of all the trepidations of the Internet, the NAT Firewall of a Router protected only from uninvited hacking.

Uninvited hacking is just a small part of the security concern of a Regular user that gets most of his infestation by email and by visiting Sites the give things "Free".

You assume that everyone has e-mail clients on each computer and installing "free" software.

Antivirus and anti-spyware prevent that crap anyway. Still no need for a software firewall.
