I recently purchased a laptop and want to set up file sharing between it and my desktop computer via the DI-604 D-link router I have. I would also like to network the one printer I have that is hooked up to my desktop via a USB cable so I can print stuff from my laptop. I have XP Home running on both systems. I am not very good with computers so a step by step would be most helpful...or perhaps someone could provide me with a link where a step by step can be found. I'm sure there are a number of ways to go about performing such a task...if I am correct I would ask to be given the easiest, least obtrusive (as far as items being installed or stuff showing up on my desktop), and most efficient method possible. I called D-Link but they told me they don't support file sharing and wouldn't provide me with any solution.

Thanks.

Can you access the net with all the machines? I assume so, if not d-link will help you with that.

You should simply be able to right-click on an a folder and choose "Sharing and Security" then tick the "Share this folder" box and give it a name. You will then be able to access it from your other machines via "My Network Places".

More information that you could want on this topic is available by searching google for windows file sharing or windows share printer or something.

I ran the wizard but I'm having a problem. I can access all my desktops shared files and drives from my notebook except for the F: Drive. There is a big red circle over the F: drive icon as displayed on my notebook in relation to my desktop and when i click on it there is a message stating the drive or network connection is unavailable and asks me to see if it is installed properly. I went back to my desktop and right clicked on the drive and asked it to share...I also tried draging it into the shared folder but it still isn't accessable from the notebook.
