Networking with Coaxial Cable

Is it possible to network my home computers using the same preinstalled coaxial cable my TVs use?

I know coaxial cable used to be used before Cat5 for networking and I need to get a network card with a bayonette connector to use it.

What speeds would I get with coaxial cable? I really don't need anything over 3-10 mbps.

no, not unless you have shut cable off, and know someone with damn old cards (we just threw away ~200 at work last month) and even then, it's not built for the network. 10 mb/s is what you would get.

If you are anti wireless or running cables, I would try powerline networking before I went the route of an old coax network

Cable TV coax is the wrong type (75 ohm versus Ethernet/ThinNet/ThickNet @ 50ohm).

Plus, as NWeaver pointed out, it would be way more pain that it's worth, even if you could do it.

Wireless! Join the wave of the present!

Good Luck

Scott

I've got wireless already. I'll probably go with powerline networking, but before I do, is there a way I can do networking via my phone line?
