Networking Windows 2000 and OS 9

This question may be better placed in the tech support forum, but I figure more people read this forum anyway.

My roommate and I are on our college LAN together and we want to network his printer. I am running windows 2000 and he is running OS 9 on a G4. We've tried network sharing this printer from both sides with no positive results. With the win2k machine all we've been able to do is ping the other ip address. Win2k can use the appletalk protocol but he cannot find my machine's name or my ip address. I also cannot find his computer in the computer search box.

Any suggestions or possible places I can go to find out how to make it work?

Thank you for your time and helping out the newbie!
