i'm confused as to how this works. if this is in the wrong forum please move.

i'm running virtual pc 2007 and have networking set to NAT. however both virtual machines are on the same box, and even though they are on the same subnet, i can't seem to get them to talk to each other.

am i doing something incorrectly? should i set networking to local only? should i send this post to software for windows instead? :)

thanks

Shared means you are sharing the network adapter with the host machine. If you don't need them to reach the Internet, set them to local only. This puts them on a virtual lan, and they will be able to talk to each other.

is there one for "bridged?" I know in vmware there was a separate one from NAT called "bridged."

Nope. You only have Not Connected, Local Only, Network Adapters, and Shared (NAT). The program is not designed for serious virtual machine setups. It's more for people that have an old program that won't run in XP or Vista. Maybe it only runs in Win 98. It's geared toward that use. It's also good for training. I run Window Server 2k3 exercises on it for learning.

If the host is connected to a Router there is No need to set them for NAT they would get IPs from the Router just like a regular computer and when you set the File Sharing they would see one the other as well as the Host.

they're all set to static IP. Internet is not really necessary, so I may go with the local only option suggested. i'm currently away from my work machine, so i'll give an update on saturday.
