Networking Someone's Home: How Much Should I Charge?

My boss referred a guy to me who needs his home networked. He also needs a VPN connection to a remote office in another state. He already has the place cabled, all I have to do is install stuff. How much should I charge?

Depends on how much you would like your boss' friend to approve of your doings and telling good stuff about you.

LOL! Yes, of course. I've downloaded a Geek Squad PDF and see what they charge. They are expensive and for a flat fee. I might go hourly because of the nature of this stuff. Something could go wrong and I'm there longer than I need to be. Then again, maybe I should go flat fee like Geek Squad.

Seems like a quick job to me, assuming the cabling thats in there is good. What's the flat fee for this sort of work? It shouldn't take you more than an hour to get everything installed and working. It would make sense to charge a nominal fee and generating some goodwill with thise concerned, especially since one of them is your boss. Heck, I'd do it for free.
