networking & sharing internet without a router

can anyone tell me what the static ip settings should be on my xbox and pc so both can access the internet?

where are you using this hub? is off a cable/dsl modem? university network?

off a cable modem (comcast)

right now, with everything set automatically, both machines can access the net, but are on different subnets. i can't even ping the xbox from the pc.

You'll have to use internet connection sharing, its the only free internet sharing software available with windows 98 and above.
