To use port fowarding does the computers need to be directy connected to the router or can I still use port fowarding with a computer connected into a port of a switch which the switch is connteced to a port in the router?
Take a look here to see what i mean.

Here is the network diagram
Would the computers on the switch be able to host things seen by the internet?

I am not 100% sure, but if the ports forwarded, it shouldn't matter if its on a switch or not. The router gives the IPs, so it knows where to send the correct info to.

But like I said, I am not a network expert.
I would like to know if I am wrong too. May save me a headache in the future.

Doesnt matter. The two switches effectively become as one. (I know thats not strictly true before someone more technical than I flames me, but in this case it doesnt matter)

Why not just plug all 5 machines directly into the router?
