Networking Question! WinXP! quick!

I got a crossover cable... and stuck both ends in the NIC holes.

and it says I am connected to a local network. (in the netork window).

I start up Starcraft and go to multiplayer and then Local Area Network (IPX) but it says "unable to utilize network provider"

WHAT SHOULD I DO??? What did I do wrong?? What do I have to do???

i thought networking in XP would be easier? (all I did was sticking the wire in the hole)

what you should do is install IPX protocol for your network card, by default its not installed.

I can't find IPX from the protocol list. grrrrrrr
