Networking question. Internet access works but computer B can't see Computer A. Computer A can see computer B

I work at a small office where we are trying to network two computers together using a single DSL line. I went out and bought the netgear rt314 router. Computer A is a laptop running windows 2000 and computer B is a desktop running windows 2000 as well. Here's the problem. I hooked up the router to both computers. both computers have internet access that works fabulously. computer A can see computer B when i go into my network but computer B can't see computer A. On the router itself in the port computer A is linked to the local acct Led does not come on at all. The port computer B is linked to the local acct led does come on and it is green. I figure the cables are ok because both computers can use the internet, but after searching netgear's site and this one i cannot find nor can i think of a solution to this problem so i am turning to y'all for help. please let me know if anymore info is needed and i will provide it for you. thanks for anyone that can help. we are of course in a very non computer related business so the office is counting on me to do this. thanks again.

This is a common situation that occurs a lot of time. When using Hardware Router, each computer can use the Internet independently, but you don?t really have a network, and in most cases, it has nothing to do with the Hardware. My suggestion, forget about the Internet for few hours, actually disconnect your WAN input, and go over all the setting (especially over the sharing, and user accounts, etc.) and make sure that you have a Network. Once you have a Network connect back the WAN, and have a good time.

If ypu need some pointers log here, and look for Win2000 parts.

file/print sharing must be enabled on a computer for it to be seen on the network... the one that cannot be seen probably can't see itself either... if that is the case you have to go in and add the MS file/print sharing protocols

2 Win2k machines can do a peer2peer workgroup. u have to have them set "shared". are all the protocols loaded on both machines???

i've got client for ms networks/file and printer sharing and tcp/ip enabled and no luck i will double check to make sure i haven't missed anything. and the computer that can't see the other can see itself. thanks so much for the responses i'll let y'all know how it goes

the other thing i forgot to mention is that when i go to the 192.168.0.1 router page from the computer that isn't working it gives me an unautorized user page. i'm not sure if these two problems are related or separate. thanks again for everyone who has helped.

are you sure that work group on both comps are the same? and if the light is not coming on check cable again and try a different port on the router.

well i don't know what happened but in the middle of today the phreaking light comes on and all is fine. i'm not sure what i changed. maybe when i kicked it it got scared and started working. thanks again to all those that helped me
