I'm having some connection problems with a computer i have networked. It downloads at maximum speed, transfers files and all that, but it has problems connecting to some servers -- it wont connect on msn messenger, or when i try to list servers for counterstrike, it is unable to do that. The other computer which is the gateway does all this without any problems at all. I used the "Setup home or small office network" option in windows xp. It is a dsl connection so i used another rj45 cable to connect to the other computer.

You'll need to look into issues sharing an Internet connection for particular applications. Some games, some applications, can't work with a default setup due to the address translation being done by your gateway. I didn't think CounterStrike had any issues with it, but the particular setup you have may be special. Search and you'll find lots of discussions of it.
