thx 4 reading

originally, I had a kit for networking, with 5m cable. Been fine til now, And I recently bought a cat5 (which is right one) 20m cable, now, for some reason, it doesn't fit in the network cards, it goes in, but doesn't 'click' and the lights don't come on, whats the prob here?

BTW, This is between just 2 pcs, no hub or switches, do I need a crossover cable? that still wouldn't explain the absence of cliking

THANKS HEAPS!

Yes you can get any length. I don't know why it wouldn't click, that's strange.

I've seen low grade cables with a weak clip that wont click. Usually broken ones. Stange that its store bought and wont click though.

thx guys, I have been told I need a crossover, yeah, it won't click, which is strange, it doesn't work on both cards, strange that. I checked the numbers on the cables, and compared them. The old 5m one was 586, the new one is 586a, which I don't know what It means, but maybe different sized clips...

586/568a....doesn't matter. You need a crossover.

If you can't find a crossover that's long enough, buy a short one and use a cat5-rated coupler to join it to you existing cable.

Good Luck
