trying to help a friend setup his network, he has two computers with winxp, I got those up and working and sharing the router easily enough, but when I plug the computer with win98 into the router there's an ip conflict. The computer is really old so no upgrading isn't an option. How do I get windows 98 to request its own IP or how do I solve this ip conflict?

are they using static ip's? check on the router what IP's are assigned to each computer, on the windows 98 machine you can renew/release ips from 'winipcfg' utility and ipconfig for xp, given you didnt get a one in a billion and get 2 nics with the same mac address. but check the routers DHCP table and check the IP's
