networking my blu-ray player

I have bought a Panasonic Blu-ray player DMP-BDT220. I can't connect it to my network. I have tried to search for my network. It finds everyone else's but mine. I have tried to manually set it up but it says " Failed to complete An authentication error or time out error occurred".
What else can I try?

Is your router set to broadcast an SSID? Dynamic or static IPs?

yeah what he said is a good place to start, also make sure your router isnt doing any kind of mac address filtering or other security measueres which might be interfearing.

I am not the best at all the computer jargon but I am not totally new at it either. I have a Netgear DG834PN router. I have a SSID and the encryption code which I entered into the player.

The player will connect to the internet via cable but this is not practical. I took it back to the place of purchase and the wifi worked there. The only suggestion they had was maybe the player was in a 'dead' spot. I moved the router to the same room but still couldn't be found by the player or setup manually. They also said that phones, ipads etc connect differently than media players.

Do I need to change my router to accept 'media players' or do I need to do something different from my player end?

what type of encryption are you using on the router(wpa/wpa2/wep etc.)? and does the player support that type of wifi encryption.

I ran into this issue when trying to get my nintendo DS online that it only supports WEP and i was using WPA2 on my router.

my router has this selected:

WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)

The player, I can select:

AES
TKIP
WEP
no encryption

my router says for WPA-PSK:
WPA-PSK - Wi-Fi Protected Access with Pre-Shared Key (PSK), use WPA-PSK standard encryption with either TKIP or AES encryption type. WPA is more secure than WEP but less secure than WPA2. Use WPA if your equipment supports it but does not support WPA2.

So I am assuming that I can select either (I have tried both anyway). After selecting either AES or TKIP it asks to select WPA2-PSK or WPA-PSK which I have selected WPA-PSK.

Then it asks for the encryption key but then it fails and the error is as my first post.

Quick update....

I found that my router was not broadcasting the SSID, it now is and I have now connected to the network.

I haven't been able to connect to the internet yet. Still working on that......
