Networking multiple buildings in factory

Hi,
I look after the facilities in a factory which is spread over about 5 acres and I'm after some advice before I get some quotes for the work to expand our network ( so basically I know what to ask/know a little before I get bamboozled by contractors )
We currently have intranet to our main building which covers offices and the main factory with about 12 network points hard wired. the building is about 80m long. The other 5 buildings are between 120-170m from the main server and about 50-80m from the end of the main building. I'd like to add 4 network points to each building so I can add a few PC's and a couple of IP cameras.
Cables can be fed between the buildings (though via a few bends etc, and I've been warned that wireless transmission is expensive and the factory could interfere with it)
Are fibre cables needed or can some kind of switches be used to get between the buildings.

Any info/advice is appreciated, thanks
