Networking macbook, xbox360 and WHS

So here is the situation. I recently bought a dell poweredge server for ~220 shipped (deal) that I am using Windows Home Server on. The networking for my house is set with about 2 computers set up to backup nightly, so I know the server is working properly.

In my room I use a macbook over airport and I have my xbox 360 close to it. I set my xbox up using ICS through ethernet from my macbook.

I followed a guide How to network macbook and 360 and I have that setup correctly with a connection active.

I want to let the xbox connect to the WHS but it will not find my server.

I did enable the guest account and turned on media sharing on the WHS.

Is it because of the ip that the xbox has, since my network is 192.168.1.x and the xbox is 192.168.2.x (look at the link as to why the xbox is 192.168.2.x)

Thanks for any help. This has been bugging me for a couple days now.

192.168.1.x and the xbox is 192.168.2.x

meand that you have two independent Networks.

Network 1 =192.168.1.x

Network 2 - 192.168.2.x

In math the difference between 1 and 2 is a small one.

In Networking it means two different Planets.

Ya, basic networking 101 I know its two entire different networks, I guess I don't understand why the xbox would be .2.x as per the guide.

amdskip: I have a wrt54g being shipped to me as I speak and ddwrt is going on it. The only other router I have is downstairs which is being used.

If you set up the new router in client bridge mode and get rid of the ICS, it should be fine -- everything will be able to get a compatible IP off the main router and then be able to see everything else.

update: Linking the xbox over wireless isn't what I want to do now. I did set up everything so the xbox can stream from my server. Here is another question.

If I wanted to link up two routers via cable, would that be the same thing as client bridge mode? The deal is my room is to far away to hook up to the family room. I want to run another router in the basement where my cable can be reached. So I would be daisy-chaining the routers

So the question I have is, the way I set up the wireless router upstairs in my room (bridge mode) I assume I can just "plug n play" and make the connection work right?

I would try this out right now, but it will take about 45 mins to run the cable 😀 and I bet someone will have an answer for me before those 45 mins 😉

It sounds like you just need a switch now, not another router -- this can be done by using only the LAN ports on the second router; turning off its DHCP and adjusting the router so that its IP doesn't conflict with the original network.
