I have an IOGEAR GPSU21 printserver (1 port / usb).

I am having a problem and I cannot seem to identify what the problem is or how to resolve it. I will provide all of the symptoms below. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

1. Using Windows 7 (64 Bit)
2. Firewall off
3. Printer is HP 1320 Laser Printer (supported by GPSU21)
4. IOGear GPSU21 Printer Server
5. DHCP from Cable Modem
6. Plugged into cable modem is a GS108 Netgear switch
7. Without the print server everything is working OK – Computer gets it IP address from DHCP and is working correctly
8. About 45 seconds after I plug in the print server I notice that lost network connectivity with from the computer – when I unplug the print server connectivity comes back
9. I tried setting up DHCP to give out addresses from a.b.c.100 – a.b.c.125 and then gave a static address to my computer a.b.c.25 – nothing different
10. I tried different ports on the switch

I am not sure where to even start troubleshooting this. I called IOGear and they told me that someone will get back to me in 24-48 hours. They have never seen this before.

I am not going to hold my breath for a solution from them (except if they want to replace the device)

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

That print server is doing a packet/broadcast storm, or possibly running proxy-arp (it really shouldn't be, but a guess).

Can your computer ping the default gateway when the problem exists? Also do command "arp -g" and look at the mac address of your gateway and see if it matches your router.

I am having this exact same issue. The print server worked fine for years and all of a sudden started doing this. I replaced the print server with the exact same model. once I setup the new one, It worked for about 3 hours then all computers on the network went offline.

Funny how no one ever comes back after asking for help. My guess is not anything mysterious or arcane, just cheap hardware being cheap.
