Networking help with xerox printer

We are receiving a Xerox Workcentre Pro 128 tomorrow at the office and I want to beable to setup the scanner so the documents will be accessible to the network computers. (5 desktops, 1 laptop. All winxp)

P.S. - no idea how to network a xerox printer. Period. HELP! 🙂

I've not used the xerox, but typically these office all in one copiers have a SMB as well as FTP services available to send to. Also, some of the models come with SMTP support so it could direct the scans to email. Do you know how you want to receive these scans?

email would be fine or in a repository folder on the network. I need to do further research in regards to setting up FTP, SMB, SMTP because I'm unfamiliar with these. Since I handle the networking with the computers boss thinks the printer is a breeze. LOL. However, never done it! Not trying to look like a Dumba$$

easy stuff mang.

most real printers (hint buy hp!) can do smtp for pdf scanning, and share to smb folder (dumps scans to a folder just supply where and credentials). smtp is easy - setup the mail user info to smtp the emails out- and upload/type in an address book - if you want to get fancy and have active directory you can tap into the LDAP of AD for automatic user list to send to.

the quality of the UI is where HP shines - i love our little xerox but damn after working with 20 hp printers that have consistent decent interfaces - i want to tear my hair out using the xerox junk drivers/web interface.

Are you buying this from a local copy vendor or is this something you ordered and is getting delivered? Most local places can help with basic setup like this, all in this area even do so free of charge
