Networking help with x-over

I recently did my first "network" with a crossover cable.
I got internet to work on both computers (Both running xp pro)
But filesharing doesn't work
I click the folders and share them,
But i cant access them
I can't even see the other comp on the network.. But It has the shared internet

any help please?

ok try pinging the ip address of the computers to make sure they can contact each other.

if they can try doing a \\ip address

also accounts/permissions may be an issue.

How Do I get the IP of the other comp?

well you get over to that computer and run ipconfig

that will tell you waht it is.

make sure both computer are in the same workgroup.

When I try to view workgroup it just lags for a while
and gives me an error

check the workgroups on both computer. right click on the networkneighborhodo (or my netwokr whatever it is) and click properties and look at work group on both computers.



try what i suggest as well.

Sorry about that.

Make sure that you don't have a firewall running. I forget to turn off zonealarm all the time =/.

I have norton Internet Security Firewall
on both comps
So, would that mess it up?
It usually asks me when a connection is going out if it is permitted

Dont know if this helps But in my connections a network bridge shows up

yes it very possibly could. try turning it off and see if it work. just to see if thats the prob, you can always get around it if it is the problem.



what internet is shared? is it cable/dsl or is it phone modem?

This was just to xfer files..
I have the cable modem running through my usb port,
and my ethernets are linked via xover cable
And internet works on the other machine so i know its networked

Also, this is wierd.. In my accounts it had ASP.net account
It ssays it will show up in the welcome screen but when I switch accounts I do not see it
Is that the other comp?

They are both XP professional
I got them underthe same workgroup now
and it shows up in both comps
but when i go on my new comp and click on the name of the network group it waits a while and then says
"[groupname] is not accesible. You might not have permissions ot use this network resource. Contact the admistrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"
