Networking Help with DSL

Ok, I was pretty sure on getting a switch for my hookup but after talking with my friends I'm kind of confused. Here is the setup.

I have PacBell Enhanced DSL (1.5mbps guaranteed, 6mbps burst/384kbps upload). They gave me 5 static IP address. Now I want to be able to connect 4 computers to the internet using those 5 IP addresses. Do I got for a router, (Like the Linksys, SMC, Netgear, etc) a switch, (if so which one?) or do I need both? This networking stuff is hurting my brain 🙁

I switch would work fine for your situation. The benefit for you to go behind a router would be to use it as a firewall for your computers. However, if you play alot of games online from more than one computer you'll save alot of headaches if you just use the switch.

I would definately go with the switch if you've already got the five IP addresses included in the price. With different IP's you won't have any problem playing online games with all the computers on the same server. If you went with the router, though, you'd only be able to use one IP (basic commercial setup routers, anyway). Usually people only go with routers when they have multiple computers and one IP address.
