Here is what my setup looks like... diagram 62kb.
Basically my laptop (win2k) receives the wireless signal, and the rest of the computers (winXP) will be sharing internet through it.

I got the wireless signal part down. The laptop has internet and it's all good there, but I duno how to set up the net sharing. The 'ipconfig' stuff I'm getting for the wireless usb adapter is:

IP address: 192.168.2.21
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.2.1

When I plug the wired connection from the ethernet card into a switch, I get some weird ip address auto assigned to me. something starting with 169. What should I be doing? Also, should I be using a router or a switch for my wired connections?

TIA

edit: got it to work. set wrong ethernet device to internetsharing.

169.xxx.xxx.xxx means in MS term no IP is found.

If you want this unusual arrangement to work, you should get a Wireless Driverless Client card (like the Linksys WET11) and plug it to the switch.

Otherwise try to use the following program as a proxy on the Laptop. May be it will work.

AnalogX Proxy.

So if I did this and plugged in my PCs to the switch, they'll all get an ip and connect themselves to the internet? I could then eliminate the server computer and thus never have to have a comp running on at all times?
