post the ipconfig /all of ALL the machines already!!

Wow, I thought he would have posted that already. A friend of mine had the exact same problem as this guy. Can't remember what I told him to fix it though.

how about taking a crossover and connecting two of the machines together and pinging like that. that would eliminate the hud/switch or whatever. couldn't he take the ICS machine and install IPCOP on it and accompolish all his goals. it would work alot better than a crappy windows box running ICS. also maybe he should have a professional over to his house to fix his problem. just a thought though

I was all for the issue not being his IP configuration as he insisted he set them all statically, and placed in them all in the same subnet, but he was clearly wrong and I and others clearly gave him too much credit.

Continuing is pointless if he refuses to post the ip configs, which takes all of 1 minute to type in here for 3 computers.

I can do it now, watch

Computer 1
10.1.1.5
255.255.255.0

Computer 2
10.1.1.7
255.255.255.0

Computer 3
10.1.1.12
255.255.255.0

That took me 15 seconds with copy/paste.

POST IT ALREADY, WTF ARE YOU WASTING OUR TIME FOR?

wow, lol @ this thread X 20. ICS dishes out IPs when its enabled... but something got fubared so his other machines arent getting IPs (as evidenced by one of his old posts with the 169.x.x.x autoconfig addy). But now hes got them configured manually, so that point is moot (until he wants to get online via the network thru ICS) Soooooo we're down to basic TCP/IP troubleshooting here. Apparently Cables are fine (hes getting link lights), so Layer 1 not the problem. Layer 2... yeah, no problem with macs, so onto layer 3 - IP!!!! w00t.

If computer A with a ip of 192.168.0.1 and computer B with a ip of 192.168.0.2 both with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 are hooked together in a NORMAL hub/switch/whatever, will be able to PING each other. But since we havent seen ipconfig /all's of the two machines we really cant do anything yet, can we. I liked the idea that someone had earlier since hes getting these hubs from work that theres some fscked up VLAN or something, but the OP said he put the old hub back and still not working. So, once we get IP information from his computers we can move from there

I'm too lazy to read back a ways, but just as a FYI the XP firewall does block ICMP (ie: ping)

Just thought I'd throw that out there, it's far too common a problem when people don't know whats wrong after verifying link status and IPs.

It may block other things like DHCP on a ICS host, etc.

Always the first thing I ask people and the response is always "uhm yeah, I thought it was turned off..."

OK, Citrix, it's been two days since you last posted in this thread. That means one of three things:

1) The network is so fscked that now no systems can connect
2) You resolved it and didn't bother to tell us
3) You drowned in your hot tub.

Please tell us (or have your next of kin) which of the three it was. And for GOD'S sake don't let this turn into BlizzardWolf's OEM RAM thread.

EDIT: Oh yeah: please post your "ipconfig /all" - from all 3 machines

EDIT 2: What did Anandtech Moderator edit in the OP yesterday?

Does it record a "edit" when a mod moves a post from one forum to another? This thread was in OT and was moved to Networking yesterday.

Oh, and Citrix;

POST THE IPCONFIG /ALL OF ALL THE MACHINES ALREADY!!

10 pages and still trying to find out the IPs?

I didnt have time to read through all the different pages, but thought I'd throw this out there in case no one else had thought of it:

Those Bay Networks hubs might be managed hubs. You might want to try resetting them if they are, there could be some kind of config on there that is keeping you from connecting.

Short of that, make a crossover cable, connect PC 1 and PC 2 together using the following IP info:

PC 1
192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0

PC 2
192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0

From each computer, try to ping the other computer. If it works, the computers themselves are good and you've got a cable problem between you and the hubs, or the hubs are messed up.

My $.02

Ah, that would do it.

Don't think it's gonna happen bro. Been a week, no Citrix responses and he's been on the forums:

But just in case: ipconfig /all of the 3 machines please.

LOL!, but let's make the request for all four (4) of the machines.

1. His main PC
2. His laptop
3. His Wife's comp
4. His File Server

He should at least have the good graces to stop in and admit he's defeated or that he's gotten someone to get it done for him 😉
