networking dvd drive as dvd drive?

hi, there's dvd rom in comp1. it's networked with comp2. however in comp2 the dvd rom is mapped as another hard drive, not dvd drive. some programs won't recognize a dvd from comp2 because the mapped drive isn't seen as a dvd drive. any way of fixing this?

winxp pro sp1 on both comps

they shoudl recognize it.

and if you want to play movies on it, it should be easy enough launch your player and load it that way.
