Well, one of the computers on my home LAN was upgraded to Windows XP. It says that to do file sharing, I need to run a Windows XP Network Setup floppy on all non-XP systems. I have the floppy disk ready (as well as a floppy disk that has the fix for the uPNP hole recently discovered), but I'm wondering if I ought to set up file sharing.
The Win98 system is rock-solid stable (as much as Win9x can be), and I'm very, very hesitant to install updates to the OS as in the past that has turned the stability upside down on more then one occasion. I attribute this hesitation to why the system is so stable. How does the XP file sharing protocol work on an Win98 system, and is it common for a computer to go bonkers once having it installed?
EDIT: My main reason for file-sharing was to send stuff to the used-to-be-not-XP system to burn onto CDR, but the Win98 system is getting a new CDRW soon, so that use is gone.
