I have 2 computers networked using a Linksys Etherfast 4 port Cable/DSL router, and sharing a cable internet connection. One computer is an AMD XP1900 1.6GHz running WinXP. The other computer is a PII 400MHz running Win98. I've noticed that the internet connection on the Win98 machine seems quite a bit slower than the connection on the XP machine. I tried plugging the 98 machine directly into the modem and the connection was noticeably faster. But I don't understand that since the XP machine does fine when going through the router. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I don?t know what you mean by slower (numerical wise), most XP connections are slightly faster then Win98. In addition your XP computer probably access, and save to the Hard Drive much faster the then the 400MHz Win98.

As a result you feel a little more agility on the XP.

The Win98 machine has a Linksys LNE100TX (or something like that) and the XP machine is using the onboard nic on my Soyo Dragon+ motherboard.

JackMDS: That's what I was thinking too, it just doesn't seem like it should be that much slower
