Networking and file redundancy

walla

I have a laptop and a desktop. There are critical documents on my desktop computer that I'd like to access on my laptop while not on the home network. IE mapping the folder as a drive is not an option as I see it.

What I want to do is have a redundant copy on my laptop. When I make changes to these documents, I would like for them to overwrite those on the desktop and vice versa. This would be similar to HotSyncing a Palm Pilot I guess.

Is there a way in windows XP to do something like this, with automatic uploading/downloading to sync the contents of file directories across networked computers?

Thanks in advance.
